"An iPod that plays together stays together"

2010 will be such an exciting year for fashion! We are emerging from the global financial crisis, so expect to see a new era of creativity in fashion! Yet we can’t assume that everyone is rich enough to buy new threads, especially us college students! School will soon be in session and “back to school” shopping is going to be the next buzz in the world of retail. Hate it or love it, partying is part of the college experience. The first semester of college is new, fun, exciting, and often nerve racking! From casual nights out, to crazy keg parties hosted by Sororities or Frats, not to mention the bars and nightclubs, there’s always that same question-OMG, WTF should I wear?!?!

When we speak of style and trends, it used to be that there was no limit to one’s creativity! It seems almost everyone wants to stand out, but I feel like the recession really put a damper the art of creating fashion. Department stores have been “playing it safe”, sticking to only a few categories of styles, and quite frankly I have become BORED with shopping these days! I am seeing the same outfit, in a different store, on a different mannequin. Could this also be why TV Networks like Bravo and Lifetime have been airing independent fashion design shows like Project Runway and other spin off shows such as Launch My Line? Take note that many of these designers are or where college students themselves! Can the class of 2010 be the year that will finally set college students “free” from the cookie cutter fashions we have seen during our recession? Only time will tell……

Here are 4 College Ready looks that you are likely to see on or around campus in 2010!

We all want to be unique, yet we tend to stay in our comfort zones and fall within one of the few categories at your local department store. Yet 2010 still gives us hope that we will be more risk taking with our wardrobe. Fashion does not define us, WE define fashion. So yes, we may look like walking iPods now but let’s try to remember that each one of us holds a unique playlist of our own that sets us apart. I’m speaking to all college students: let’s expand our horizons, umm I mean playlist! ………What’s in YOUR playlist?
